Digital technology has a vital role in teaching and learning, running our workplaces, and our daily lives. Many of our students are digital natives, and we are committed to creating digital citizens. We value our internet facilities and ICT digital technology equipment and the benefits they bring us in teaching and learning and the effective operation of the school.
We actively encourage our students to use digital technology confidently and competently by learning how to keep themselves safe online and manage challenges and issues, including understanding and meeting privacy and copyright laws, and protecting digital devices and equipment. As defined by Netsafe, a digital citizen:
We have a successful BYOD (Bring your own device) programme in our Year 5-8 classes. We implement digital technologies to support and enhance learning by your children. Feedback from staff, pupils and parents is very positive. There are many advantages in children owning their own device.
Our recommended device for all Yr 5-8 children is a Chromebook.
These tools are perfect for a primary educational setting. They are robust and generally glitch free. Prices are less expensive than laptops. Costs are approximately $400 - $450.
Screen Time. We will be using a Blended Learning model. This is a combination of traditional teaching practices and e-learning opportunities that together will deliver the best learning experiences for your child. Screen time is balanced and students will not be on the computers all day.
Security. All devices stay in the classroom at morning tea and lunch. Students do not have access during these times. Our school wifi is only accessible between 9am and 3pm. Our network is managed by a government body specifically dedicated to schools providing a safe secure and reliable service.
